Psychoeducation in art therapy practice

On this course we will explore how to effectively integrate psychoeducation into your clinical work. We will consider formal psychoeducational approaches, informal responsive interventions and the role of imagery to enhance therapeutic practice and support learning, collaboration and change.

What is a psychoeducational approach?

Experiences of distress can be overwhelming. We may long for care but find it hard to believe anyone can help. Through taking a skillful psychoeducational approach, therapists can provide clients with a supportive bridge from the isolation of distress towards effectively engaging in therapeutic sessions.

In this collaborative work, the therapist skilfully shares knowledge and ideas about the human experience, empathetically offering these alongside the client鈥檚 lived experience. Through this process, a map and language can emerge to orientate the therapeutic work and offer each client resources.

What you will learn

The course will:

  • Provide an introduction to the use of psychoeducation, exploring both formal and informal approaches.
