This powerful and important workshop explores and reflects on the words which we use in conversations, in therapy, in notes/recordings, and in places like meetings and client consultations.
Open to all suitably qualified and trainee professionals.
We look at the words we use to talk about people and describe them; as well as talking with other professionals. We think about how the way we speak can influence and impact our and others’ lens, bias, prejudice, attitude, actions, and so forth. This includes thinking about attentional and confirmation biases. We also look at why our words can be healing or harmful; trauma-inducing or trauma-reducing.
We think about how words can make worlds. This includes person first language, trauma-informed language, opinion-based language, the meaning behind acronyms, and much more. Stories, anecdotes, and top tips will be shared; as well as powerful images. There will be opportunities to reflect, share thoughts, and discuss with others in the group.
Learning outcomes:
- To increase awareness of the power and impact of language and the words we use.
- To learn new ways of framing questions and describing people from a more trauma-informed perspective.
- To think about some of the way鈥檚 language can influence our actions, feelings, and sensations; including attentional and confirmation biases.

Bookings for our online Introduction, Foundation, ARTiculate, CPD and Masterclass courses close one week before the start date, at 10.00am.
Joining instructions and materials will be available in your Memberzone, under bookings, once bookings have closed. A reminder email will be sent out to delegates one week before the course.
It is the attendees’ responsibility to check they have access to the joining instructions before the course.聽Contacting the office on the day or evening before the start date will not always be responded to prior to the course starting.
Employer funded bookings are available for our online Introduction, Foundation, ARTiculate, CPD and Masterclass courses.
These bookings can be made on our website by paying by card at no extra cost. The booking should be made on the delegate鈥檚 account as we will need their contact details for the course. If they don鈥檛 have an account they can create one for free here. The employer will be required to provide their credit/debit card details to complete the payment.聽Please also tick the employer funded option at checkout.
If your employer wants to pay by invoice, you will need to complete our Invoice Details Request – Course Booking Form, and return it to us along with a PO number. Please note, we cannot accept the form without a PO number. Please note, there is an additional 拢20 admin fee for bookings via invoice.
